Types Of Earwax Removal
Syringing (unsafe) This method is now outdated and unsafe, using a syringe full of water directed towards the eardrum to force the blockage out. Often resulted in damaging the eardrum itself.
Microsuction (safe) Using a medical vacuum device to attach to the wax drawing it gently away from the eardrum, compacted wax can often be removed successfully with this method.
Irrigation (safe) Using a medical device in co-operation with an angled probe to gently pulse warm water to the side of the ear canal wall – not directly at the eardrum. This method is particularly successful and removing the last traces of wax lying on or close to the eardrum itself.
Home Kits (unsafe) These include methods such as hooks, corkscrews and home vacuum devices. Most of these result in the wax compacting further and deeper and result in increased problems. In some cases even perforating the eardrum itself.
Earwax removal should always be completed by a professional.
